Here at CECO we are proud to help preserve our oceans!

Facts About The Ocean

  1. Around 80% of the air we breathe, comes from our oceans
  2. Oil spills aren't the biggest oil pollution of our oceans. They account for around 12% of oil, but three times that is carried out to sea via runoff from our roads, rivers and drainpipes.
  3. Professionals estimate by 2050, we will have more plastic than fish in the ocean.
  4. Some garbage patches are so big in the ocean, you can see them from space.
  5. Once a plastic has been broken down so much after time, it will take 400 years (round about) for it to degrade.
  6. Around 70% of plastic sinks to the bottom of our ocean floor, meaning we probably will never be able to clean most of it up, and will never know how much is truly down there.
  7. "Dead zones" are increasing in size RAPIDLY! A dead zone is where an area of the ocean is lacking oxygen, and therefor all life in that area usually dies.
  8. It might not "sound" like much- but noise pollution. Shipping and military activity causes cellular damage to some invertebrates, that have a detrimental impact on the food chain. Also a lot of animals communicate and hunt via sound waves. This noise pollution messes up the whole balance.

What Charities Do We Donate To?

As it stands we officially donate to 3 charities:

Lonely Whale

You might recognise Lonely Whale by their campaign "#STOPSUCKING" where A-List celebrities sat down, and admitted that they all sucked. By suck they didn't mean that they were a loser, but that they used plastic straws!

They're founded on the principle of radical collaboration, and hope to make huge changes in how we view plastics and our ocean/environment. They describe themselves as-

"Lonely Whale is an incubator for courageous ideas that drive impactful change on behalf of our ocean. Inspired by the power of community to create the change we need to ensure a healthy planet, we are working towards a new era of radical collaboration, together facilitating the creation of innovative ideas that push the boundary on current trends in technology, media and advocacy that positively impact the health of our ocean."

Mission Blue

Have you ever heard of marine protected areas? Well these guys are trying to create as many as possible in some of the most important places on earth.

Put simply, a Marine Protected Area is an area of water (seas, oceans and estuaries) that restrict human activity, for conservation purposes. These are usually put in place for wildlife refuges, or research facilities.

These are so important, especially from a species extinction point of view. If part of the ocean gets destroyed, it's gone. You can try and rebuild it, but it will never be the same and house the same wildlife. Some species only live in certain parts of the world, and we need to try and preserve as many as possible!

Their main focus is gaining awareness via as many means as possible- you might've  also seen their film on Netflix - Mission Blue - which I would 100% recommend.

Describing themselves-

"Mission Blue inspires action to explore and protect the ocean. Led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue is uniting a global coalition to inspire an upwelling of public awareness, access and support for a worldwide network of marine protected areas – Hope Spots. Under Dr. Earle’s leadership, the Mission Blue team implements communications campaigns that elevate Hope Spots to the world stage through documentaries, social media, traditional media and innovative tools like Google Earth. Mission Blue also embarks on regular oceanic expeditions that shed light on these vital ecosystems and build support for their protection. Currently, the Mission Blue alliance includes more than 200 respected ocean conservation groups and like-minded organisations, from large multinational companies to individual scientific teams doing important research. Additionally, Mission Blue supports the work of conservation NGOs that share the mission of building public support for ocean protection. With the concerted effort and passion of people and organisations around the world, Hope Spots can become a reality and form a global network of marine protected areas large enough to restore the ocean, the blue heart of the planet."

The community backing this charity is unlike no other. It is so strong. They host so many fund raisers, groups of people get together every day to help and try preserve the oceans, and it's all done out of the kindness of their heart, and their passion and love for the ocean and our world.

In their words-

"Our Mission

Project AWARE connects the passion for ocean adventure with the purpose of marine conservation

 Our Vision

A Return to a Clean, Healthy ocean

 Our Conservation Blueprint

There are two critical focus areas for Project AWARE: Community and Policy. When both are working together, we are driving towards our mission and vision. Below is a visual representation of our organisation’s blueprint."

How Much Of Your Order Goes To These Charities?

5% of each order goes to these charities. We dont stop there though. Personally, we donate our own money, and are always looking for ways to do our part for our earth!

Check out our blogs for ways that you can get stuck in and do your bit!

If we dont take action now, we will regret it, and our children will regret that WE didn't do anything. Sadly this one isn't magically going to sort itself out.
